Joanna Fan is an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto studying public policy, political science, and economic analysis. Her academic interests include economic policy, public sector governance, political institutions, and the political economy of public policy, with particular attention to how policy design and state capacity shape distributional and socio-economic outcomes.

In 2026, Joanna participated in the Jackman Humanities Institute’s Scholars-in-Residence Program, contributing to The Digitization of Canada’s Founding Debates (1867–1871), an interdisciplinary research project that applies digital humanities and natural language processing methods to the study of early Canadian parliamentary debates.

Joanna currently serves as the Communications & Branding Officer at the lab, where she manages the lab’s public-facing communications, including its website, LinkedIn presence, and newsletter, and supports the communication of ongoing research projects and activities.
